It's the ordinary things of everyday life that inspire me to paint - a fat little wren singing to celebrate life, a teacup left on the breakfast table, apple blossoms brought in from the spring garden, one last perfect rose before winter sets in. Simple subjects but when touched by the extraordinary behavior of light, they transform into something more, something essential and beautiful and this is the intrigue I aspire to capture on canvas.

I prefer painting from life whenever possible, searching for that essence that sets the subject apart. I design uncomplicated but considered compositions with a sensitivity for colour harmony, light, fluid line, and brushwork. Realist masters from the past have certainly influenced my choices but I strive for a modern interpretation so that my paintings suit either contemporary or traditional surroundings.

I received an honours degree in art and worked in the commercial art field for almost twenty years.
